Ivan Reitman directed this Sports drama. Watch Preview. Cast: Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, Ellen Burstyn, Denis Leary, Frank Langella, Chadwick Boseman, Sean Combs. Rated PG-13 on appeal for brief strong language and sexual references. Running time is one hour and forty-nine minutes.
On the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver (Costner) has
the opportunity to save football in Cleveland when he trades for the
number one pick.
I am not a football fan, but this film easily had the best cast this week so I decided to give it a try. Imagine my surprise when I found myself enjoying the film. To be fair, that's partly because there's hardly any football in it. Rather the film is about the personal interplay between the manager, his mother, his girl friend, the team owner, the coach, and a few of the players. This is a very good cast with a well written script that moves right along. Younger audiences will probably consider it too "talky" and lacking in action, but I found myself interested in the characters and their problems. It's slightly longer than I would have preferred but I didn't feel the need to check my watch, which is a good thing.
There are no additional scenes once the final credits begin. Screen size is unimportant. Theatres/Times.
